Mother’s Day is coming up, and I couldn’t be more excited! No, I am not a mom yet, but I do love spoiling my Mom as much as I possibly can to show my appreciation for the life she has given me. Every year I try and do something a little different, and this year I decided to decorate her house with Mother’s Day decor and flowers.

Don’t worry; I will also take her out for food and to get our nails done. What can I say…I go hard! So I have been gathering my supplies for my surprise decoration spree. The only thing left on my list is a wreath!

A Little Mother’s Day Fact

I don’t know about you, but I love to learn about how our holidays came into being. I just recently learned about when and why Mother’s Day was founded, and I wanted to share it with you:

Mother’s Day is a holiday honoring motherhood that is observed in different forms throughout the world. In the United States, Mother’s Day 2023 will occur on Sunday, May 14. The American incarnation of Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 and became an official U.S. holiday in 1914.

The funniest part about this story is that later on in her life, Jarvis actually openly opposed Mother’s Day and wanted it taken off the calendars. This was not because of her lack of appreciation for Moms, but rather she was very upset that this holiday had taken such a commercial turn.

The flower companies and card companies all jumped onto the bandwagon and before she knew it, her simple holiday was becoming a way for businesses to make money! Now that we have covered that little fact(that I give you permission to use at your mother’s day get-together), we can get into the ideas.

The best part about getting Mother’s Day is your mom doesn’t get to put up a fight about being spoiled. Most of the time, moms will have a hard time being pampered, but on this one day a year, they let themselves kick back and enjoy the day.

I challenge you to make your Mom feel extra special this year. Bake her some cookies, take her to the movies…get her a spa gift card. Do all of the things that you want to do for her all year because now is your chance. And better yet, don’t let the pampering stop. Start to spoil your mom throughout the year as well, even if she does put on a fight!
